You want a vacation getaway just after the 4th holiday this is it. With the Cherry festival moving back a weekend you can enjoy all that downtown Traverse City. The world famous Interlochen Music camphas concerts virtually every night. There is just to many things to mention here to do. Don't forget about great, affordable camping right inside the Interlochen State Park being steps away from the transition area.

MultiSport 101

 4:00pm day before race, located in transition area..

We have been told by many athletes from across the country that our 101 is the best anywhere. Our goal with the 101 from day one has been to go through the entire event start to finish for the newbies, the beginners, the less experienced athletes. To try and calm down those butterflies as much as possible. Along with the information on the race the Race Director will give you dozens of racing and training tips along the way and answer any question you may have as well. Classes range from an hour to 2 hours depending on size and how many questions there are. If you are new to Multi-Sport it is Highly Recommended you attned this class.

Awards are provided at all events except ACT and TRI.  They will be awarded in 5 yr. increments beginning at 20-24, 25-29, etc.  Before that they will be in 2 yr. increments based on registrations within those categories.  Top 3 Men, Top 3 Women overall in each event are taken OUT of his/her age group.  An overall win is an overall win, therefore you cannot win two awards.  In most events unless otherwise noted top 3 men and women in Clydesdale and Athena categories will be awarded.  Also in Long courses the top overall Master female and male will be awarded to the top 40 year plus male and female.

 Awards will in NO circumstances be given out early, or individually before the awards ceremony.  If you must depart for the awards ceremony you may opt to pay the $10 shipping and processing fee and have the award mailed to you.

 You MUST send this form in within 2 weeks following the event with a check or money order for $10 per award in order to receive your award.  Please understand we have NO control over the US postal service.

Course Info

This event had over 600 athletes from 21 states registered in 2011. The swim is in the crystal clear Duck lake with an in the water start. The bike is pretty much the flattest road in the county with one small climb on the way out, and is tree lined the entire way. Back county roads are lightly traveled to the point athletes have told us they have counted less than 20 cars back there. The run depending on Olympic or sprint depends on what you get for your money. You want flat as a pancake fast out and back or "the hill" that greets Olympic distance athletes as they make the turn for their final 4 tenths before the turnaround point. You run through the cheering fans in the campground on the way out and back in before the excellent finish.

Swim: 500m/1500m

500m / 1500m  - Duck lake is a crystal clear lake with few weeds. The water temp has been as low as 68 and as high as 80throughout the years. You will swim a triangle course for Olympic distance and rectangle for sprint athletes. An in the water start at the last park swim area buoy. Wave starts will be postedon Saturday at Packet Pickup/registration. 

Bike: 20k/40k

Inter-Rockin Bike Map

20k or 40k - You will exit the transition area straight down the park road then merge onto the pedestrian path for park entry and exit onto 137. There is no need to fly here you can fly when you get out of the park. You will NOT use the park entry/exit that you drove into the park. You will head down just past the Interlochen camp crossing and parking area to a Left turn on Diamond park road and from that point you can fly. Making another left onto Cinder to your turnaround points and back. The short climb isjust past your Left on Cinder/

 Remember this is an open course! You will be sharing the road with vehicular traffic. Use caution at all times. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses. It is the athlete's responsibility to know and understand the courses. Helmets are a must. No helmet - no race. MP3 players on the bike course are an automatic disqualification. Due to a few athletes actions in the past during an event we are making you aware not only in this event but ALL events whether hosted by us or any other event management company YOU MUST OBEY ALL OFFICIALS and EMERGENCY VEHICLES on the course AT ALL TIMES!! The bottom line here is your race is not more important than an EMERGENCY or OFFICIAL on the course.In the event of an emergency you MUST obey officials requests, and you MUST STOP and pull off the road for any and all EMERGENCY VEHICLES to get by.This is not only to ensure the emergency vehicles can proceed, it is for your safety as well. Any athlete that does not adhere to this rule will be disqualified and will not race in a 3 d event for the rest of the year. This to us is common sense and should not have ever came to this point.

Run: 5k/10k

Inter-Rockin Run/Transition Map

5k or 10k - Exiting the transition area you will follow the run chute outbacktowards the beach, making a right on the pedestrian pathinto the south camp ground. You have about 200m thru the camp ground to the back of the park onto state park road. A very quick Left, then Right and it is a straight shot. Sprint and Duathletes will head to the 2500m mark and return. Olympicdistance athletes will continue to a Left on Youker to what everyone talks about"The Hill" which you will run to the top before heading back to the new finish area. Water andElectrolyte replacementat each mile on the course. Tree lined and flat (except the hill).

Duathlete Run 1

5k, starting on the pedestrian path just where the chute heads through the woods into the transition area you will head straight into the campground to the 2500m turnaround on state park road. Run 2 will follow sprint course

Relays

At registration you will receive ONE bib number and ONE chip/strap. The bib number goes on the runner as that is who will be crossing the finish line. All relay members must be body marked with that number. The Chip/Strap will be securely fastened around the person competing in the first discipline. There will be a designated spot for All Relays at one of the entry/exit points in the transition area marked RELAYS. All staging and chip/strap exchanging is to be done at this point. Not on the course. The Chip/Strap must be securely fastened to each athletes ankle, do not grab it and go, do not put it on the wrist. Upon finishing it is the last athletes responsibility to return that chip/strap at the finish line. (one athlete may do more than one discipline)

Transition Area

Open at 6:00am closes at 7:45am. No Friends or Family members allowed in the transition area for any reason.The race director and race officials will close the transition area 30-45 minutes before race start to ensure all athletes are at starting lines for mandatory course meetings and announcements. Once the transition area is closed you will not be permitted back in before the race starts. Family members will not be premitted in for any reason. In the event of inclement weather it is recommended you have warm, dry clothing outside the transition area to put on following your finish due to other athletes still being on the bike course. Thank you for your cooperation in following these rules.

 You must rack according to your race number based on sequence placed at end of row. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes racking with seat tip on support bar. Please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7. Any athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race! No questions asked, your race number will be taken down and you will be disqualified. The transitionarea is closed until all athletes are off the bike course. Sprint athletes this goes for you as well, you must wait until all the athletes are off the course and race officials open the transition area. All athletes deserve a clear transition. There will be an aid station at the run in/out chute with water and electrolyte replacement. Athletes wearing their own chips, PLEASE remove your chips before re-entering the transition area and exiting again. This can cause a timing error. Run in/out and Bike in/out chutes are clearly marked on the large structures at either end, it is your responsibility to go the right direction.

Race Tips

A hugely popular event, meaning no free awards here. Waves for the swim will be 80-100 athletes, starting in the water at waste deep, so get out there and get a good spot for a good start. A good swim and transition helps here as you have to make your way past Interlochen music camp before you can really start hammering on the bike. So I would waste no time doing that. Then when you make your left past the camp you can drop the hammer. Not much traffic and not much of anything else out there so start picking people off. We have not had issues with weather or winds here to much, most of the courses are pine tree lined the entire way. You will have to slow a bit going past the Interlochen music camp again and then more when getting into the state park for the transition area. It is very motivating heading out on the run going through the south camp ground with hundreds of campers in there cheering you on and the fresh smell of bacon on the fire. LOL Then you head out on a flat as a pancake part asphalt part gravel road. Your out and back it on this road, mostly tree lined, but you can surely use everyone out there as motivation to keep you going. Then I think everyone runs their fastest the last 200m cutting back through the camp ground again to a short jaunt through a tree section before popping out in the finish chute.

Packet Pickup/Registration

Day Before: Saturday from 2-5pm.
Day of: Sunday 6-7:15am ONLY.
Do not forget $6 dolar park entry fee
Do not arrive late. Registration will close. Plan to pickup your packet or register on Saturday to avoid long lines Sunday. Come out go for a swim and you will be ready to rock and roll Sunday.

Day of Registration will close promptly 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each event unless otherwise noted.

Will be located in most cases under the white tents, please follow the registration signs and look for the purple “Registration” flags.

 ITEMS YOU MUST BRING: USA Triathlon member card and drivers license. You will not be permitted to race without your drivers license. NON USA Triathlon members will be required to proceed to the USA Triathlon registration table to fill out a one day member license and pay the USA Triathlon $10 fee. This entire fee is sent directly to USA Triathlon following the event along with the event results. If you are not familiar with the multi-sport governing body please see their website at: www.usatriathlon.org

Upon completing the initial registration process you will be issued a race bib number, it is YOUR responsibility to check your personal information for correct spellings, age changes, etc. at this point. Wrong information can cause issues with your race timing and scoring. If you registered by the 14 day pre-registration cut-off date you will receive your T shirt, then proceed to the partner supplied sample area where you may pick one sample of each product.

  Note: Kids participating 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to sign event waivers.

USAT

A $12 one day USAT license fee is required for all NON - USAT members. Relays are required to pay $12 per relay member.  Youth 17 and under is a $5 fee for the year.
Pre registered athletes your fee was collected online this fee goes directly to USA Triathlon NOT 3D.    
Remember the USAT age up rule, meaning you will race at the age you will be at the end of the year.

Timing/Scoring

We provide all the timing and scoring services for each and every event we host. This will be with ChampionChip or Chrono Track timing systems.

Proceed to the “Chip Pick Up” flag typically near the transition area entrance. You will be issued a neoprene strap with a plastic chip. This must be securely fastened to your ankle for the entire event. It is recommended you put this around your ankle immediately.

 You will NOT be issued a chip and strap without your race bib number. There are no exceptions so do not forget this when picking up your chip and strap.

Throughout the event there will be sets of timing mats or gators, typically under structures indicating finish, bike in, run out, swim finish etc. You must cross over these areas. Do not avoid them or attempt to jump over them. Finally every effort will be made to supply you with a swim, bike, run, transition 1, transition 2 and finish times. However it is explicitly expressed the electronic timing systems are not fool proof. They are electronics and computers outside in the elements and they are not perfect systems. We along with any other timer out there can only score what is captured in a system.

PRELIMINARY results will be posted on and in results kiosks typically located in and around the post event areas. Results are rarely 100% final at the time of the awards ceremony, due to post race corrections.

Your results will be posted on the event website under the “Results” tab located on the home page as well as event page. Every effort is made to post these by the following morning or within 24 hrs. of the event.

 You are responsible for that chip and strap once it is handed to you. If you lose this at any point, meaning you do not turn it in at the finish line you will be responsible for the $40 replacement cost. There are no exceptions to this.

Body Marking

After picking up your chip and strap the “Body Marking” flag is typically located near this area. Please proceed to the body marking area. Event support crew will be marking race numbers on your swim caps, biceps, tops of hands, and quadriceps. You will also have your event code marked on one calf. T= long course, S= sprint, D= duathlon, R = relay, H = half. On the opposite calf will be your USAT Age Up. Meaning your age for that year.

Friends, Family and Spectators

You to have some rules to follow to ensure your safety and the safety of the athletes. You cannot be in the transition area for any reason at any time. This is absolutely OFF LIMITS. All fenced areas are fenced for a reason, it is not to see where you can get around or crawl over or under. These are athlete only areas and are fenced for their safety and yours. Fenced areas will be taken down before raffle and award ceremonies. Athlete post race snack tent areas are off limits. This is simply because some out there find it very difficult to resist the delicious snacks for the athletes. Unfortunately we do not have enough to feed everyone, if you are taking it there will not be enough for the athletes following their finish. So we have been forced to fence this area, therefore it is off limits. “Hot Spots” which are always the swim exit, bike in/out and finish chutes are high priority areas in terms of safety and caution. At our events these areas are always fenced and flagged and typically patrolled by crew. Please do not lean on, or over in order to get a picture. Please make sure you have all pets on short leashes. Please make sure you have all your kids close by your side, a small child running across a chute in front of athletes running full speed is not a good thing. Finally if you would like to help out the support crew on the course please feel free to ask them or please see the race director before the event. We are ALWAYS looking for additional assistance on the course and you will receive access to the post race snack tent with your athlete as well as receive a support crew shirt.

If you would like to be a part of the event and receive a support crew shirt and access to the post race snack tent we will never turn down help. The more help on the course just means it is that much better for the athletes. We can ALWAYS use your assistance.

 In order to be guaranteed a custom event shirt you absolutely MUST be pre-registered 14 days in advance.  Please understand if you don’t know you are doing the event a week or two out how are we to know?  If a shirt is important to you please pre-register. Due to increasing costs with shipping and shirts orders are kept tight.

Course Info

Run course is totally contained within the facility and is a slightly rolling cross country style run, by that we mean the park has groomed an 8 foot wide path some grass, some trail with an out and back loop. Bike course is fast but does have rolling hills and will challenge you. It is a very fun and exciting bike course as well as very scenic and beautiful taking you across two dams.  Remember This is an open bike course.

Bike: 17mi. or 34mi.

Obviously a one or two loop course.  exiting the transition area you will follow the park road up and out of the park making a right turn. From this point you will basically follow the road nearest the lake all the way around the lake.  Several tree lined sections as well as sections right next to the lake and sections out in farm land.  It is fast, it is scenic, smooth but it will challenge you with rolling to hilly sections.  It is a really fun bike course. It is marked with chalk and a series of 3 painted arrows leading up to intersections, as well as arrows on signs at turns.

 Remember this is an open course! You will be sharing the road with vehicular traffic. Use caution at all times. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses. It is the athlete's responsibility to know and understand the courses. Helmets are a must. No helmet - no race. MP3 players on the bike course are an automatic disqualification. Venue/Area Information

Another one of those "off the beaten path" venues, like Big Fish and we all know how that one sells out a month in advance. Given the cause and the course the Coleman brothers have brought to the table this should be another one of those "must do" events. Otter Lake is a small, quaint village just north of Flint, about 16 miles East of I-75 at the Clio rd. exit. So this is about 15 - 20 miles North of the Big Fish venue. Not much going on here but they have a great park with a lake in the heart of the city. There will be a classic car festival going on this weekend. You will be starting and finishing right downtown as that is where Otter Lake is, right downtown.

We have been told by many athletes from across the country that our 101 is the best anywhere. Our goal with the 101 from day one has been to go through the entire event start to finish for the newbies, the beginners, the less experienced athletes. To try and calm down those butterflies as much as possible. Along with the information on the race the Race Director will give you dozens of racing and training tips along the way and answer any question you may have as well. Classes range from an hour to 2 hours depending on size and how many questions there are. If you are new to Multi-Sport it is Highly Recommended you attned this class.

Unless otherwise noted 2011 events will include a custom event shirt, custom finishers medal, custom latex swim cap, sponsor supplied samples, professional chip timing with results available online, awards to top three in each age group, a great sponsor supplied raffle and awards ceremony following the last finishers and the best post race snack table out there.

 In order to be guaranteed a custom event shirt you absolutely MUST be pre-registered 14 days in advance.  Please understand if you don’t know you are doing the event a week or two out how are we to know?  If a shirt is important to you please pre-register. Due to increasing costs with shipping and shirts orders are kept tight.

Awards are provided at all events except ACT and TRI.  They will be awarded in 5 yr. increments beginning at 20-24, 25-29, etc.  Before that they will be in 2 yr. increments based on registrations within those categories.  Top 3 Men, Top 3 Women overall in each event are taken OUT of his/her age group.  An overall win is an overall win, therefore you cannot win two awards.  In most events unless otherwise noted top 3 men and women in Clydesdale and Athena categories will be awarded.  Also in Long courses the top overall Master female and male will be awarded to the top 40 year plus male and female.

 Awards will in NO circumstances be given out early, or individually before the awards ceremony.  If you must depart for the awards ceremony you may opt to pay the $10 shipping and processing fee and have the award mailed to you.

 You MUST send this form in within 2 weeks following the event with a check or money order for $10 per award in order to receive your award.  Please understand we have NO control over the US postal service.

Course Info

The swim in Otter lake, will be a rectangle style, no weeds in this lake folks, nice clear swim with a on the beach start.  A nice 200m jaunt up to the transition area next to the car show.  The bike course is very cool and will test the system, this is a rolling course the entire way with a few little climbs along the way.  You will go across two spots where the course crossed the resavoir.  Smooth pretty much the entire way as well as tree lined. The run course will be an out and back type course on the rail trail going through town and finishing right down town where all the festivities will be going on. Plenty of room to see other athletes, pass other athletes and set a pr as it is fast and flat.

Swim: 500m/1500m

500m / 1500m - Will be a rectangle course right in front of the beach at Otter Lake. A beach start for this one, heading out keeping buoys on your left the entire time. Life Guards on paddle boards will be stationed along the course for your assistance. You will be issued a swim cap for the event, this is mandatory, if you are allergic to latex please bring your own cap. Swim waves will be posted in the morning throughout the venue. YOU MUST race in the wave according to your age on Dec. 31 2011, not your age on race day! Failure to swim in the correct wave will mean your race times will be off.  Water temp as of: 7.12 - 78

20k or 40k - Please see course maps, the course is on rural roads very similar to Big Fish, rolling the entire way.  Tree lined as well as smooth in most places.  The course will test the system with a few climbs as well, nothing major just hills to keep everyone honest and to get out of the saddle a few times.

 Remember this is an open course! You will be sharing the road with vehicular traffic. Use caution at all times. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses. It is the athlete's responsibility to know and understand the courses. Helmets are a must. No helmet - no race. MP3 players on the bike course are an automatic disqualification. Due to a few athletes actions in the past during an event we are making you aware not only in this event but ALL events whether hosted by us or any other event management company YOU MUST OBEY ALL OFFICIALS and EMERGENCY VEHICLES on the course AT ALL TIMES!! The bottom line here is your race is not more important than an EMERGENCY or OFFICIAL on the course.In the event of an emergency you MUST obey officials requests, and you MUST STOP and pull off the road for any and all EMERGENCY VEHICLES to get by.This is not only to ensure the emergency vehicles can proceed, it is for your safety as well. Any athlete that does not adhere to this rule will be disqualified and will not race in a 3 d event for the rest of the year. This to us is common sense and should not have ever came to this point.

Run: 5k/10k

Tri for Life Run/Transition Map

5k or 10k - Exiting the transition area you will follow the chute, then cones over to the rail trail. This is a 10 foot paved path, previously a railroad turned into a great traffic free, closed path for outdoor recreation. This is a flat and very fast path tree lined much of the way. You will simply head down the rail trail following the cones to your turnaround point indicated by a 4 foot tall A Frame sign with Sprint Turnaround or Long Turnaround on it. There will be aid stations at each mile with water and Hammer Heed product. Please let the support crew know what you would like as you are approaching each station. Miles will indicated on A frame signs as well.

Relays

At registration you will receive ONE bib number and ONE chip/strap. The bib number goes on the runner as that is who will be crossing the finish line. All relay members must be body marked with that number. The Chip/Strap will be securely fastened around the person competing in the first discipline. There will be a designated spot for All Relays at one of the entry/exit points in the transition area marked RELAYS. All staging and chip/strap exchanging is to be done at this point. Not on the course. The Chip/Strap must be securely fastened to each athletes ankle, do not grab it and go, do not put it on the wrist. Upon finishing it is the last athletes responsibility to return that chip/strap at the finish line. (one athlete may do more than one discipline)

Transition Area

Open at 6:00am closes at 7:45am. No Friends or Family members allowed in the transition area for any reason.The race director and race officials will close the transition area 30-45 minutes before race start to ensure all athletes are at starting lines for mandatory course meetings and announcements. Once the transition area is closed you will not be permitted back in before the race starts. Family members will not be premitted in for any reason. In the event of inclement weather it is recommended you have warm, dry clothing outside the transition area to put on following your finish due to other athletes still being on the bike course. Thank you for your cooperation in following these rules.

 You must rack according to your race number based on sequence placed at end of row. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes racking with seat tip on support bar. Please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7. Any athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race! No questions asked, your race number will be taken down and you will be disqualified. The transitionarea is closed until all athletes are off the bike course. Sprint athletes this goes for you as well, you must wait until all the athletes are off the course and race officials open the transition area. All athletes deserve a clear transition. There will be an aid station at the run in/out chute with water and electrolyte replacement. Athletes wearing their own chips, PLEASE remove your chips before re-entering the transition area and exiting again. This can cause a timing error. Run in/out and Bike in/out chutes are clearly marked on the large structures at either end, it is your responsibility to go the right direction.

 ITEMS YOU MUST BRING: USA Triathlon member card and drivers license. You will not be permitted to race without your drivers license. NON USA Triathlon members will be required to proceed to the USA Triathlon registration table to fill out a one day member license and pay the USA Triathlon $10 fee. This entire fee is sent directly to USA Triathlon following the event along with the event results. Upon completing the initial registration process you will be issued a race bib number, it is YOUR responsibility to check your personal information for correct spellings, age changes, etc. at this point. Wrong information can cause issues with your race timing and scoring. If you registered by the 14 day pre-registration cut-off date you will receive your T shirt, then proceed to the partner supplied sample area where you may pick one sample of each product.

  Note: Kids participating 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to sign event waivers.

USAT

A $12 one day USAT license fee is required for all NON - USAT members. Relays are required to pay $12 per relay member.  Youth 17 and under is a $5 fee for the year.
Pre registered athletes your fee was collected online this fee goes directly to USA Triathlon NOT 3D.    
Remember the USAT age up rule, meaning you will race at the age you will be at the end of the year.

Timing/Scoring

We provide all the timing and scoring services for each and every event we host. This will be with ChampionChip or Chrono Track timing systems.

Proceed to the “Chip Pick Up” flag typically near the transition area entrance. You will be issued a neoprene strap with a plastic chip. This must be securely fastened to your ankle for the entire event. It is recommended you put this around your ankle immediately.

 You will NOT be issued a chip and strap without your race bib number. There are no exceptions so do not forget this when picking up your chip and strap.

Throughout the event there will be sets of timing mats or gators, typically under structures indicating finish, bike in, run out, swim finish etc. You must cross over these areas. Do not avoid them or attempt to jump over them. Finally every effort will be made to supply you with a swim, bike, run, transition 1, transition 2 and finish times. However it is explicitly expressed the electronic timing systems are not fool proof. They are electronics and computers outside in the elements and they are not perfect systems. We along with any other timer out there can only score what is captured in a system.

PRELIMINARY results will be posted on and in results kiosks typically located in and around the post event areas. Results are rarely 100% final at the time of the awards ceremony, due to post race corrections.

Your results will be posted on the event website under the “Results” tab located on the home page as well as event page. Every effort is made to post these by the following morning or within 24 hrs. of the event.

 You are responsible for that chip and strap once it is handed to you. If you lose this at any point, meaning you do not turn it in at the finish line you will be responsible for the $40 replacement cost. There are no exceptions to this.

Body Marking

After picking up your chip and strap the “Body Marking” flag is typically located near this area. Please proceed to the body marking area. Event support crew will be marking race numbers on your swim caps, biceps, tops of hands, and quadriceps. You will also have your event code marked on one calf. T= long course, S= sprint, D= duathlon, R = relay, H = half. On the opposite calf will be your USAT Age Up. Meaning your age for that year.

Accomodations

Friends, Family and Spectators

You to have some rules to follow to ensure your safety and the safety of the athletes. You cannot be in the transition area for any reason at any time. This is absolutely OFF LIMITS. All fenced areas are fenced for a reason, it is not to see where you can get around or crawl over or under. These are athlete only areas and are fenced for their safety and yours. Fenced areas will be taken down before raffle and award ceremonies. Athlete post race snack tent areas are off limits. This is simply because some out there find it very difficult to resist the delicious snacks for the athletes. Unfortunately we do not have enough to feed everyone, if you are taking it there will not be enough for the athletes following their finish. So we have been forced to fence this area, therefore it is off limits. “Hot Spots” which are always the swim exit, bike in/out and finish chutes are high priority areas in terms of safety and caution. At our events these areas are always fenced and flagged and typically patrolled by crew. Please do not lean on, or over in order to get a picture. Please make sure you have all pets on short leashes. Please make sure you have all your kids close by your side, a small child running across a chute in front of athletes running full speed is not a good thing. Finally if you would like to help out the support crew on the course please feel free to ask them or please see the race director before the event. We are ALWAYS looking for additional assistance on the course and you will receive access to the post race snack tent with your athlete as well as receive a support crew shirt.

If you would like to be a part of the event and receive a support crew shirt and access to the post race snack tent we will never turn down help. The more help on the course just means it is that much better for the athletes. We can ALWAYS use your assistance.

Course Info

New this year, ONE transition area.  Yes it is about 800m from the finish line but the safety of athletes, friends, family and local residents will increase significantly by eliminating the other transition area.  Location will be across the road from the swim start at the corner of Sister Lakes Rd./county road 690 and 95th ave. The finish line, registration, post race festivities will be located at the Lions park located half a mile down 95th ave.  This is where the finish line, packet pickup/registration, and post race festivities as well as venue parking will be located.  Please do not park at T-1 there is very little room.  It is about 800m to T-1 from T-2.  So after parking at the Lions club, registering, etc. you can ride down to the T-1, follow the signs left out of Lions park straight down to T-1.  You MUST get body marked and pick up your Timing Chip and Strap at T-2 after you have completed the registration/packet pickup process at Lions Park.  Body Marking/Chip Pickup will be located at the Run In/Out area.  Bike In/Out will be closed. 

The Bike course is a smooth but rolling course most of the way.  There are a few flat sections, but the course will keep you on your toes and will take you around several other lakes.  The Run course will take you around Big Crooked lake through the residential areas around the lake which will attract the locals to cheer you on as you fly by. 

Swim: 1000m/500m

Your swim will start in Round Lake, one of 7 lakes in the immediate area.  A small beach area next to the Driftwood restaurant.  The lake is clear and course will probably be a triangle format with large yellow buoys indicating the sprint course and orange marking the long course.  Depending on weed growth and weather conditions the long course could very well be two loops of the short course, however you will not need to exit the water for lap two.  Water temp as of:

Lifeguards will be positioned along the course on paddle boards as well as waverunners for your safety.  If you do need assistance during the swim raise your hand and a guard will get to you.  You will be provided a swim cap, this is mandatory, if you are allergic to latex you may wear your own cap but a cap must be worn.  Swim waves will be posted at packet pickup tents and at the transition area.  The transition area (T-1) is located across the road from the lake.  Remember this is a two transition event.  You are responsible to put your gear into the provided T-1 bag.  Event management nor Sister Lakes is responsible for lost items being transported from T-1 to T-2.  Once you have placed your items in the provided Transition bag or your own clearly marked bag, that bag will be taken from T-1 to T-2.   

Bike: 23mi./13mi.

Exiting the transition area across from the swim exit on Lake View to a Right on 95th ave. taking you past the Lions Park to a Right at M152, Right at Garrett Rd, Left at Swisher, Right at Town Hall, Right at Middle Crossing, Sprint athletes will continue STRAIGHT DOWN MIDDLE CROSSING - Olympic athletes Left on Burke down to School street, right merge.  School street to Indian Lake.  Sprint athletes will make their RIGHT at Middle Crossing and Indian Lake and head back to T-1.  Olympic distance athletes will make a LEFT on Indian Lake and head south to a Right on Old M62, to a Right on M62.  Staying on the coned shoulder of M62, down half a mile to a RIGHT on Brush Lake road.  Up to a Right on School st to a LEFT turn at Indian Lake and then heading back to T-1.  A quick Left/Right on Dixon and on Sister Lakes Road (690.  Click here for course map

Exiting the transition area you will follow a flagged chute out to 95th ave, you will cross the road and head West around Big Crooked lake (Opposite direction of last year).  You will make a Left on M-152 to a Left on Lakeshore Dr. Lake Shore, Left at Victory Shore up and around the Cul-de-sac and back to a Left at Sister Lakes Rd.,  Left at 95th, Right at the Lions Park.  Aid stations will be placed each mile, this is a 5k loop so long course athletes will simply keep running past the turn in to Lions park for lap 2.  Each mile will be marked as well as the course with cones and chalk and signs at each corner. Transition Area

Race Tips

My big race tip for this race is get on site a little earlier than normal.  I am not a big advocate of arriving early and hanging out all morning, cold or not 20 extra minutes in bed is 20 extra minutes.  But because T-1 is a little further away than normal you can take your time getting down there,  you never know what issue may arise and as I am not a big advocate on arriving at 6am I also can't stand rushing before a race.  So get there in plenty of time to get registered, and allow for plenty of time to get body marked and pick up your chip and strap.  As you all know there can typically be long lines at these spots so you dont want to wait till the last minute to arrive and find long lines then you are rushing over to T-1  Especially if there is potential for inclement weather.

So we have been forced to fence this area, therefore it is off limits. “Hot Spots” which are always the swim exit, bike in/out and finish chutes are high priority areas in terms of safety and caution. At our events these areas are always fenced and flagged and typically patrolled by crew. Please do not lean on, or over in order to get a picture. Please make sure you have all pets on short leashes. Please make sure you have all your kids close by your side, a small child running across a chute in front of athletes running full speed is not a good thing. Finally if you would like to help out the support crew on the course please feel free to ask them or please see the race director before the event. We are ALWAYS looking for additional assistance on the course and you will receive access to the post race snack tent with your athlete as well as receive a support crew shirt.

Sunday July 22nd, 8:00am @ Mackinaw Cities Waywatum park, Mackinaw City, MI. Located under the water tower down town next to Sheplers Ferry. Mackinaw City is located at the tip of the mit some say, where the lower peninsula meets the upper at the straights of Mackinaw right off of I-75.

This is a very popular event for families and Kenny & Annmarie's favorite race, they try to race here every year. Kids can race the 5k, or even the entire event as it is short enough. But there is plenty to do before the event and after, I don't have to tell you about Mackinaw city and Mackinaw Island.

 NO Multisport 101, we are unable to start setting up the transition area until that evening.

We have been told by many athletes from across the country that our 101 is the best anywhere. Our goal with the 101 from day one has been to go through the entire event start to finish for the newbies, the beginners, the less experienced athletes. To try and calm down those butterflies as much as possible. Along with the information on the race the Race Director will give you dozens of racing and training tips along the way and answer any question you may have as well. Classes range from an hour to 2 hours depending on size and how many questions there are. If you are new to Multi-Sport it is Highly Recommended you attned this class.

Amenities

Unless otherwise noted 2011 events will include a custom event shirt, custom finishers medal, custom latex swim cap, sponsor supplied samples, professional chip timing with results available online, awards to top three in each age group, a great sponsor supplied raffle and awards ceremony following the last finishers and the best post race snack table out there.

 In order to be guaranteed a custom event shirt you absolutely MUST be pre-registered 14 days in advance.  Please understand if you don’t know you are doing the event a week or two out how are we to know?  If a shirt is important to you please pre-register. Due to increasing costs with shipping and shirts orders are kept tight.

Awards are provided at all events except ACT and TRI.  They will be awarded in 5 yr. increments beginning at 20-24, 25-29, etc.  Before that they will be in 2 yr. increments based on registrations within those categories.  Top 3 Men, Top 3 Women overall in each event are taken OUT of his/her age group.  An overall win is an overall win, therefore you cannot win two awards.  In most events unless otherwise noted top 3 men and women in Clydesdale and Athena categories will be awarded.  Also in Long courses the top overall Master female and male will be awarded to the top 40 year plus male and female.

 Awards will in NO circumstances be given out early, or individually before the awards ceremony.  If you must depart for the awards ceremony you may opt to pay the $10 shipping and processing fee and have the award mailed to you.

 You MUST send this form in within 2 weeks following the event with a check or money order for $10 per award in order to receive your award.  Please understand we have NO control over the US postal service.

Course Info

One of our favorite events to host, it is just one of those little events that is a must do. There is so much to do before and after it is a great escape race right in the middle of the season. It is not going to take a ton out of you so it will not ruin the August and September events you are focused on. The swim is just gorgeous as you can see down 30 feet easy to the bottom. The bike is great completely along both lakes out and back so you can see all your competition. The same for the run, all flat and all fast.

Swim: 800m

800m - Hard to find clearer water than this, when you have water this clear you typically do not have beach sand to stir things up. The negative is it is a rocky shoreline. The positive is it drops off very quick so after 4-5 stepsyou are in deep water. The rocks are all round as well and there have been no complaints about them. How can you complain swimming next to the Mighty Mackinaw bridge. Triangle swim down to Sheplers ferry entry, across with Mackinaw Island in the distance and back in. Wave starts will be posted on Sunday at Packet Pickup/registration.

Bike: 30k

30k Bike Map

30k - You will exit the transition area straight down under the mighty Mackinaw bridge, past the fort, a few quick turns through the neighborhood before making a Right on Central ave. right at the high school. Down to a Left on Park rd and out to the turnaround point right at the Wilderness state park entrance and back. It is a fast course, with one climb, not to steep, just a grinder.

 Remember this is an open course! You will be sharing the road with vehicular traffic. Use caution at all times. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses. It is the athlete's responsibility to know and understand the courses. Helmets are a must. No helmet - no race. MP3 players on the bike course are an automatic disqualification. Due to a few athletes actions in the past during an event we are making you aware not only in this event but ALL events whether hosted by us or any other event management company YOU MUST OBEY ALL OFFICIALS and EMERGENCY VEHICLES on the course AT ALL TIMES!! The bottom line here is your race is not more important than an EMERGENCY or OFFICIAL on the course.In the event of an emergency you MUST obey officials requests, and you MUST STOP and pull off the road for any and all EMERGENCY VEHICLES to get by.This is not only to ensure the emergency vehicles can proceed, it is for your safety as well. Any athlete that does not adhere to this rule will be disqualified and will not race in a 3 d event for the rest of the year. This to us is common sense and should not have ever came to this point.

Run: 5k

5k - a great little run down town Mackinaw taking you from the Lake Huron side to the Lake Michigan side of Mackinaw city. You will run past the lighthouse, underneath the mighty Mackinaw bridge, past historic fort Michilmac and into a nice neighborhood right on Lake Michigan before your turnaround. Athletes YOU WILL RUN BACK ON THE SAME NORTH SIDE OF THE ROAD! .

Duathlon Run 1

Starting just in front of the finish chute you will head out to Mile 1 and return meshing in with the swimmers entering the transition area. Athletes YOU WILL RUN BACK ON THE SAME NORTH SIDE OF THE ROAD!

5k Run

This has historically started right around 8:35 ish, we try to get as many bikes out of the transition area as possible before the run is started. You will line up in the same spot as the duathletes, just in front of the finish chute. Athletes YOU WILL RUN BACK ON THE SAME NORTH SIDE OF THE ROAD!

Transition Area

Open at 6:00am closes at 7:45am. This is a European style racking format, one long rack on either side of the road. First come, first serve for this event. No Friends or Family members allowed in the transition area for any reason.The race director and race officials will close the transition area 30-45 minutes before race start to ensure all athletes are at starting lines for mandatory course meetings and announcements. Once the transition area is closed you will not be permitted back in before the race starts. Family members will not be premitted in for any reason. In the event of inclement weather it is recommended you have warm, dry clothing outside the transition area to put on following your finish due to other athletes still being on the bike course. Thank you for your cooperation in following these rules.

 You must rack according to your race number based on sequence placed at end of row. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes racking with seat tip on support bar. Please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7. Any athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race! No questions asked, your race number will be taken down and you will be disqualified. The transitionarea is closed until all athletes are off the bike course. Sprint athletes this goes for you as well, you must wait until all the athletes are off the course and race officials open the transition area. All athletes deserve a clear transition. There will be an aid station at the run in/out chute with water and electrolyte replacement. Athletes wearing their own chips, PLEASE remove your chips before re-entering the transition area and exiting again. This can cause a timing error. Run in/out and Bike in/out chutes are clearly marked on the large structures at either end, it is your responsibility to go the right direction.

Relays

At registration you will receive ONE bib number and ONE chip/strap. The bib number goes on the runner as that is who will be crossing the finish line. All relay members must be body marked with that number. The Chip/Strap will be securely fastened around the person competing in the first discipline. There will be a designated spot for All Relays at one of the entry/exit points in the transition area marked RELAYS. All staging and chip/strap exchanging is to be done at this point. Not on the course. The Chip/Strap must be securely fastened to each athletes ankle, do not grab it and go, do not put it on the wrist. Upon finishing it is the last athletes responsibility to return that chip/strap at the finish line. (one athlete may do more than one discipline)

Race Tips

This is a bikers race, with only a 800m swim and 5k run you don't have much time to catch folks, including past pr's. So as the instructions say take it easy when heading through downtown. A lot of folks are trying to get to the fort at this time. When you hit central it is an immediate hammer drop. You have a slight incline about 2 miles down the road, get out of the saddle here, then hammer to the left dead end turn. At the 10k mark you have another little incline, then you have another mile to a right turn, 100m left then you are along lake Michigan. This is a fast section and you need to push this out and back. You will see many athletes hit that hill you went down on the way out at the 10k mark now at the 25k have difficulty with this hill. You need to get out of the saddle here and push it, leave those behind. Then you are flying down central before heading back downtown. The 5k is flat and fast, out and back so you can once again pick folks off. Use the downtown area for some more motivation to pick it up.

Packet Pickup/Registration

Day of: Sunday 6-7:30am ONLY.

Day of Registration will close promptly 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each event unless otherwise noted.

Will be located in most cases under the white tents, please follow the registration signs and look for the purple “Registration” flags.

 ITEMS YOU MUST BRING: USA Triathlon member card and drivers license. You will not be permitted to race without your drivers license. NON USA Triathlon members will be required to proceed to the USA Triathlon registration table to fill out a one day member license and pay the USA Triathlon $10 fee. This entire fee is sent directly to USA Triathlon following the event along with the event results. If you are not familiar with the multi-sport governing body please see their website at: www.usatriathlon.org

Upon completing the initial registration process you will be issued a race bib number, it is YOUR responsibility to check your personal information for correct spellings, age changes, etc. at this point. Wrong information can cause issues with your race timing and scoring. If you registered by the 14 day pre-registration cut-off date you will receive your T shirt, then proceed to the partner supplied sample area where you may pick one sample of each product.

  Note: Kids participating 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to sign event waivers.

USAT

A $12 one day USAT license fee is required for all NON - USAT members. Relays are required to pay $12 per relay member.  Youth 17 and under is a $5 fee for the year.
Pre registered athletes your fee was collected online this fee goes directly to USA Triathlon NOT 3D.    
Remember the USAT age up rule, meaning you will race at the age you will be at the end of the year.

Timing/Scoring

We provide all the timing and scoring services for each and every event we host. This will be with ChampionChip or Chrono Track timing systems.

Proceed to the “Chip Pick Up” flag typically near the transition area entrance. You will be issued a neoprene strap with a plastic chip. This must be securely fastened to your ankle for the entire event. It is recommended you put this around your ankle immediately.

 You will NOT be issued a chip and strap without your race bib number. There are no exceptions so do not forget this when picking up your chip and strap.

Throughout the event there will be sets of timing mats or gators, typically under structures indicating finish, bike in, run out, swim finish etc. You must cross over these areas. Do not avoid them or attempt to jump over them. Finally every effort will be made to supply you with a swim, bike, run, transition 1, transition 2 and finish times. However it is explicitly expressed the electronic timing systems are not fool proof. They are electronics and computers outside in the elements and they are not perfect systems. We along with any other timer out there can only score what is captured in a system.

PRELIMINARY results will be posted on and in results kiosks typically located in and around the post event areas. Results are rarely 100% final at the time of the awards ceremony, due to post race corrections.

Your results will be posted on the event website under the “Results” tab located on the home page as well as event page. Every effort is made to post these by the following morning or within 24 hrs. of the event.

 You are responsible for that chip and strap once it is handed to you. If you lose this at any point, meaning you do not turn it in at the finish line you will be responsible for the $40 replacement cost. There are no exceptions to this.

Body Marking

After picking up your chip and strap the “Body Marking” flag is typically located near this area. Please proceed to the body marking area. Event support crew will be marking race numbers on your swim caps, biceps, tops of hands, and quadriceps. You will also have your event code marked on one calf. Course Info

This is a great course for beginners being a flat and fast course in another beautiful Michigan tourist destination. A point to point swim, finishing at the Cadillac high school, followed by a fast lightly travelled bike course and ending with a great run around cadillac lake on a 8 foot blacktopped path most of the way.

Swim: 500m / 1500m

500m / 1500m - Swim start will begin at the city park directly across from the high school. This will be an in the water start, triangle swim format, entering and exiting down a flagged chute in the water. Wave starts will be postedon Saturday at Registration.  Water temp as of 7.26: 86

Bike: 20k / 40k

Bike Map

20k / 40k - Exiting the transition area through the back of the high school parking lot you will head out on the course. This is a very flat, fast and smooth out and back course. Sprint athletes will turnaround at the large orange Sprint turnaround sign and return. Olympic distance athletes will continue past the sprint turnaround sign to the Olympic turnaround sign. A series of traffic cones will be placed as you are approaching those spots. Please see course map.

Kinda weird swim entry/exit point to navigate but checking that out early will benefit. This is just another really really fast course. You got about 5k to get out of the residential area, then a little travelled road newly paved affords you the ability to fly. As flat as the race is and being in August you don't really need to save much, sprint du athletes you have a simple out and back flat run so you can just fly. Long course athletes have a great run around Cadillac lake on paved path. It is not a boring run, we have run it and provides some good spots to see who is ahead of you so you can go after them. Definitely use that whenever possible out there. It can get windy on both courses so be prepared for that, tuck behind someone for a bit on the run so you are not breaking the wind alone out there. Just get aero and stay there if the winds kick.
