Sunday June 27, 2011 7:45 am - Metro Beach, Metropark, Mt. Clemens, Mi.
Venue/Area Information
Another gorgeous metropark. This venue actually was the site for one of Michigan's first triathlon back in the day. A short sprint race that saw a couple hundred athletes from both Canada and Michigan compete. Well before the sport exploded and even before there were aero bars. The event kinda faded away in the early 1990's. The park sits on some beautiful beach front property on Lake St. Clair. The terrain is pretty much flat so this will be a perfect setting for a sprint race. You will of course have the metropark entry fee which makes these events possible and keeps the metroparks beautiful. Some of you know of beach closing issues along lake St. Clair beaches. These issues are almost always associated with a hot summer and later in the summer due to warm water temperatures and seagulls. This event will be no different than any other we host in that beach/water monitoring results done by the health department will be forwarded to us. The date for the event was chosen specifically to ensure we have done everything possible to avoid a potential water issue. We will not compromise your health or safety in the extreme rare possibility that the beach is closed the event will not be cancelled. The triathlon will become a duathlon for all competitors. Again there has not been an issue with beach closings in June.
