Kenny developed the Starkermann Epic Challenge to do one thing, break the system down so when you recover you will be stronger in every aspect. You can do individual events or Starkermann Jr. if you are not ready for the Sr. Challenge. The Gateway event takes us down to the largest lake in Illinois for a beautiful event kicking off the triathlon season. Time to rock and roll now.

Willow Metropark is located right off of I-275, between Will Carleton and Huron River Dr. You will exit S. Huron rd. #11 and go right into the park.Proceed to the pool parking lot.

Another beautiful Huron Clinton Metro Park, this is part of a three park system, with Willow in the middle, Oakwood just down the street and Lower Huron a few miles west. It is a beautiful park nestled in the big Willows in a rural setting. The park is 10 minutes from Metro Airport, about 30 from Ann Arbor, and 45 from Detroit as well as 45 minutes from the Ohio state line.

Our goal with the 101 from day one has been to go through the entire event start to finish for the newbies, the beginners, the less experienced athletes. To try and calm down those butterflies as much as possible. Along with the information on the race the Race Director will give you dozens of racing and training tips along the way and answer any question you may have as well. Classes range from an hour to 2 hours depending on size and how many questions there are. If you are new to Multi-Sport it is Highly Recommended you attned this class.

This is a great destination for a duathlon, racing around the island 25k on the bike and running on the closed nature path around the airport. Proceeds from this event will go to the Naval Memorial fund.

Regardless if you are crossing the Free bridge or the pay bridge you will proceed to the ariport at the south end of the island. Following Meridian, the main road down the middle of the island you will dead end at the airport. Follow signs and support crew when you arrive at the airport. Parking will be at the township parking lot.
Venue/Area Information
Grosse Ile is an island at the south end of the Detroit River and north end of Lake Erie. With Canada on one side and Trenton or Riverview on the other depending on what end of the island you are on. It has been the home to the Grosse Ile duathlon in some form since the early 90's. Originally hosted by Mr. Gene Edwards on the opposite side of the island it now finds its home at a great venue in the airport.
