4300 main park rd. Stony Creek Metropark, Shelby Township, Mi. 48316 800.477.7756. Remember there is a $4 park entry fee. Click here for park information

Venue/Area Information: Another beautiful Huron Clinton Metro park. These parks as most know are jewels in the Michigan park system. Beautifully maintained grounds and facilities. Athletes love training and racing at Stony Creek which has made this a popular event. A ton of shopping and amenities are within 10 miles of this park.

Course: The swim is in a cove that does not have a beach, this is an X tri which means areas are not always clearly defined and groomed. Athletes have liked that about this swim course. Run course is totally contained within the and is totally flat cross country style, the bike course is challenging but fast. This isone of the moreheavily used mountain bike courses in the state due to its location and design. Very little single track means plenty of room for passing. Mostly hard packed dirt and rocks will be the terrain. This course should be rated as a medium to moderate ranking. It does contain some fast downhills that would require mountain bike skills.

Race Tips: Sticking with the Xtri tradition, this is not a beautiful beach swim, it is an area that does not even have a beach, not much room to spread out which adds to the X for that over used word today, Xtreme. So get through the swim as best you can. Where you can excel in this race is knowing the mountain bike course. Get over to Stony and ride you will see there are trails intersecting trails everywhere. It takes the crew 3 hours to mark this course, it is done Friday night and checked again before the race due to the boneheads that think it is funny to tear down and remove course markings. Watch for tape, painted arrows and signs at every intersection. Athletes in the past have commented on how well the course was marked. So the big tip is keep your eyes ahead so you can prepare for your moves ahead of time rather than on top of a turn. The run course is flat and cross country style with about 2 miles on grass winding around the area. So you can hammer the run.

Transition Area: Open at 6:00am. No Friends or Family members allowed in the transition area for any reason. The race director and race officials will close the transition area 30-45 minutes before race start to ensure all athletes are at starting lines for mandatory course meetings and announcements.  Once the transition area is closed you will not be permitted back in before the race starts.  Family members will not be premitted in for any reason.  In the event of inclement weather it is recommended you have warm, dry clothing outside the transition area to put on following your finish due to other athletes still being on the bike course.  Thank you for your cooperation in following these rules.
***You must rack according to your race number based on sequence placed at end of row. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes racking with seat tip on support bar.   Please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7.   Any athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race!  No questions asked, your race number will be taken down and you will be disqualified. The transitionarea is closed until all athletes are off the bike course. Sprint athletes this goes for you as well, you must wait until all the athletes are off the course and race officials open the transition area.  All athletes deserve a clear transition.  There will be an aid station at the run in/out chute with water and electrolyte replacement.  Athletes wearing their own chips, PLEASE remove your chips before re-entering the transition area and exiting again.  This can cause a timing error.  Run in/out and Bike in/out chutes are clearly marked on the large structures at either end, it is your responsibility to go the right direction.

Swim: 1000m in the lake at Stony Creek metropark, This is total X tri format, as there is not a defined beach at Winter cove. There is a small area to enter the water and exit. This is X tri, so have fun with it. You will head out 500m and return. Weeds in the lake right now are there but still 2-3 feet below the surface.

Mountain Bike:13mi. - This course will be about 13 miles. This course should be ranked in the medium to moderate mountain biking ability levels. The trail head is half mile from the transition area. Exiting the transition area at the Winter Cove area you will follow the cones out and across the Stony Creek road heading back to the mountain bike trail head. USE CAUTION WHEN CROSSING THE ROAD! We will be utilizing pretty much the entire course back there. You will encounter everything from single track, double track, some tech areas, some fast downhills with switch backs, some pretty good short climbs, but nothing to difficult out there. It is a great course we have developed and should be perfect for the first X tri. the number to number description for those familiar with the maps out there are: 27 - 26 - 14 RIGHT to 15, RIght to 25 - 28 - 24 - 21 - 22 - 23 - 29 Left to 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 19 - 18 Left to 20 Right to 16 Right to 17 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12 Right to 13 then straight back out. NOTE you will have two way traffic from 14,26,27 to trail head. This is a wide section of the trail, basically the beginning section. Due to trail conditions and availability the course could be plus or minus 1-3 miles. If there is a change this will be in your email confirmation that week.

Duathletes2 mi. first run will be an out and back to the 1 mile aid station and returning. Run: 4 miles- The run is a fast flat run exiting the transition area you will simply follow the cones. This is not a trail run, but more of a cross-country style run course set up in the fields in and around the transition area, this will include a section on the paved path inside the park which will be an out and back section. Water and electrolyte replacement at 1mile and turnaround points.
Use caution at all times remember this is a mountain bike course, you should have experience with mountain biking for participation. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses. It is the athletes responsibility to know and understand the courses. Helmets are a must, no helmet, no race. MP3 players on the bike course are automatic disqualification

Relays: At registration you will receive ONE bib number and ONE chip/strap. The bib number goes on the runner as that is who will be crossing the finish line. All relay members must be body marked with that number. The Chip/Strap will be securely fastened around the person competing in the first discipline. There will be a designated spot for All Relays at one of the entry/exit points in the transition area marked RELAYS. All staging and chip/strap exchanging is to be done at this point. Not on the course. The Chip/Strap must be securely fastened to each athletes ankle, do not grab it and go, do not put it on the wrist. Upon finishing it is the last athletes responsibility to return that chip/strap at the finish line. (one athlete may do more than one discipline)

Finish/Awards: After you have returned your chip and strap you will proceed to the post race snack tent for refreshments. Raffle and Awards will begin AFTER the last person finishes. If you chose to leave event management will not be responsible in any way for mailing your award or raffle prize. ****You may click here to print awards form and mail in a check for $10 within 2 weeks after the event to get your award mailed to you.
