Venue/Area Information: Another gorgeous metropark.  This venue actually was the site for one of Michigan's first triathlon back in the day.  A short sprint race that saw a couple hundred athletes from both Canada and Michigan compete.   Well before the sport exploded and even before there were aero bars.  The event kinda faded away in the early 1990's.  The park sits on some beautiful beach front property on Lake St. Clair.  The terrain is pretty much flat so this will be a perfect setting for a sprint race.  You will of course have the metropark entry fee which makes these events possible and keeps the metroparks beautiful.  Some of you know of beach closing issues along lake St. Clair beaches.  These issues are almost always associated with a hot summer and later in the summer due to warm water temperatures and seagulls.  This event will be no different than any other we host in that beach/water monitoring results done by the health department will be forwarded to us.  The date for the event was chosen specifically to ensure we have done everything possible to avoid a potential water issue.  We will not compromise your health or safety in the extreme rare possibility that the beach is closed the event will not be cancelled.  The triathlon will become a duathlon for all competitors.  Again there has not been an issue with beach closings in June.

Course: The Mt. Clemens area is predominantly flat, as is the park property.  Every effort will be made to keep you in waist to shoulder deep water for the swim.  The bike course will basically be an out and back as there is only one road entering and exiting the park.  The run course will use existing black topped park paths keeping you inside the park.  It will be a fast course.

Transition Area: Open at 6:00am closes at 7:30am. No Friends or Family members allowed in the transition area for any reason. The race director and race officials will close the transition area 30-45 minutes before race start to ensure all athletes are at starting lines for mandatory course meetings and announcements.  Once the transition area is closed you will not be permitted back in before the race starts.  Family members will not be premitted in for any reason.  In the event of inclement weather it is recommended you have warm, dry clothing outside the transition area to put on following your finish due to other athletes still being on the bike course.  Thank you for your cooperation in following these rules.
***You must rack according to your race number based on sequence placed at end of row. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes racking with seat tip on support bar.   Please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7.   Any athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race!  No questions asked, your race number will be taken down and you will be disqualified. The transitionarea is closed until all athletes are off the bike course. Sprint athletes this goes for you as well, you must wait until all the athletes are off the course and race officials open the transition area.  All athletes deserve a clear transition.  There will be an aid station at the run in/out chute with water and electrolyte replacement.  Athletes wearing their own chips, PLEASE remove your chips before re-entering the transition area and exiting again.  This can cause a timing error.  Run in/out and Bike in/out chutes are clearly marked on the large structures at either end, it is your responsibility to go the right direction.

Swim: 750m  TIME TRIAL START with 5-15 seconds between each swimme!  Every effort will be made to keep you in waist to shoulder deep water.  There will be several metropark lifeguards on boards and waverunners to assist you if you need help.  The swim course will be marked with large neon orange buoys.  A map of the swim course will be posted at registration as well as the transition area.  This will be determined by weather that weekend as well as weed growth.  Waves will not be larger than 100 athletes per wave for your safety and comfort.  Provided swim caps must be worn during the swim, if you are allergic to latex you must bring your own silicon cap.  A mandatory pre-race meeting will start about 7:45am on the beach.  Swim course instructions will be given at that time as well.  Each athlete will be counted in.
water temp as of 6.20: 78 degrees, NO WETSUITS

Bike: 13mi, An out and back 2 loop flat and fast and CLOSED bike course.  This will be a two loop course, exiting the transition area in the grass near the beach you will make a Right off the driveway to a loop through the train area before exiting the park on the INSIDE lane on Metroparkway.  This lane will be coned the entire way down to the final left U turn before Crocker.  You will be again on the INSIDE lane heading back east to the park.  This lane will be coned for bikes as well.  If you cross the orange cones for any reason at any time you will be disqualified.  The cones are in place for your safety to seperate the vehicles from bikes.  As you cross Jefferson and head towards the pay booth for the Metrobeach entrance you will make another U turn and head back out for lap 2.  Upon completing lap 2 you will proceed through the inside pay booth station, taking you to a LEFT at the stop sign which will take you back into the transition area.  Faster athletes are asked to stay on the outside, along the cones.  Slower athletes should remain on the inside along the median at all times.  Slower athletes please do not block the lane along the cones for the faster athletes.  There will be Macomb county police at the Jefferson intersection, do not proceed through the intersection until they wave you through.  Again you will have a dedicated closed INSIDE lane both west bound and east bound on Metro parkway from and to the park entry points.  Communication is a must on all multi-loop courses so please be vocal with fellow athletes on the bike course.  Maps coming soon.
****Remember this is an open course! You will be sharing the road with vehicular traffic. Use caution at all times. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses.  It is the athlete's responsibility to know and understand the courses.  Helmets are a must.  No helmet - no race.  MP3 players on the bike course are an automatic disqualification.  Due to a few athletes actions in the past during an event we are making you aware not only in this event but ALL events whether hosted by us or any other event management company YOU MUST OBEY ALL OFFICIALS and EMERGENCY VEHICLES on the course AT ALL TIMES!!  The bottom line here is your race is not more important than an EMERGENCY or OFFICIAL on the course.  In the event of an emergency you MUST obey officials requests, and you MUST STOP and pull off the road for any and all EMERGENCY VEHICLES to get by.  This is not only to ensure the emergency vehicles can proceed, it is for your safety as well.  Any athlete that does not adhere to this rule will be disqualified and will not race in a 3 d event for the rest of the year.  This to us is common sense and should not have ever came to this point.

Run: 5k, Utilizing existing park black topped walking paths, keeping you in the metropark, flat and fast.  Water and electrolyte replacement at 3 spots on the course.

Duathlete Run 1: 2mi. - Starting at the edge of the finish chute under the Duathlon Start flags, you will head out to the 1mi. turnaround point, turnaround and head back to the transition area meshing in with the swimmers exiting the water. All duathletes will report to the mandatory meeting on the beach at 7:45.  After the meeting they will then head up to the Duathlon start flags near the finish chute.  You will follow the run course coordinator on the course.

COURSE MAPS: Swim   Bike    Run    Transition area

Relays: At registration you will receive ONE bib number and ONE chip/strap. The bib number goes on the runner as that is who will be crossing the finish line. All relay members must be body marked with that number. The Chip/Strap will be securely fastened around the person competing in the first discipline. There will be a designated spot for All Relays at one of the entry/exit points in the transition area marked RELAYS. All staging and chip/strap exchanging is to be done at this point. Not on the course. The Chip/Strap must be securely fastened to each athletes ankle, do not grab it and go, do not put it on the wrist. Upon finishing it is the last athletes responsibility to return that chip/strap at the finish line. (one athlete may do more than one discipline)

Rules: Event management reserves the right to post pone, change format, or cancel the event at any time if the safety of athletes, staff, support crew, and officials is or could be in jeopardy. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON!!! Event management is NOT responsible for late arrivals, athletes not finding a venue, etc.  Late arrivals will NOT be issued a chip and strap and you will not be allowed in the transition area once it is closed.  Again, there will be no refunds for any reason.  If an event has mandatory bike check in you must check in your bike during the alotted check in times.  Failure to do so will mean you are not going to race and again no refunds will be given.  These rules are in place for a reason and deviation of them is not fair to the hundreds of athletes that follow the rules.  Profanities on the course, directed at support crew, staff, or fellow athletes will not be tolerated and will result in an Automatic Disqualification and could result in further suspension.  If you are caught throwing trash on the course you will receive a 5 minute penalty for the first offense and the second will be a disqualfication. There are garbage bins everywhere, use them.  Kids 17 and under may not compete in half ironman distance events. Kids must be 10 yrs. of age to compete in adult sprint events. The race director will have final say for anyone racing at any event.  Athletes experience will be considered in a personal interview with the race director on site if a question of ability to safely finish is at stake.  Failure to comply will result in a change of event or disqualification if there is an un-willingness on an athletes part.  Safety will NOT be compromised under any circumstances.  A lost chip will be billed directly to the athlete for a $40 fee and may result in no times for event.
